Janis Christenson, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been in full-time private practice in Nashville since 1992. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her doctorate in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Christenson works with adults and adolescents primarily treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety and eating disorders.
She also has specialized training in the innovative and highly effective treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder called Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Dr. Christenson is a Level II trained EMDR therapist. Since her initial EMDR training in 1997, she has provided relief to many clients suffering with emotional distress associated with trauma. She also founded the organization Nashville EMDR Therapists in 2004.
Dr. Christenson is a member of the Tennessee Psychological Association and has served on the Board of Directors for Tennessee Women in Medicine. She was the 2002 president of Nashville Psychotherapy Institute and in the year 2000 she received a “Spirit of Leadership” award from the Civic and Networking Organization CABLE.
